The unbrickable pledge
A FlightPortrait is meant to hang on your wall for years. It should never stop working because of something that happens to us.
We've already taken a few steps in that direction:
- July 2026: we open sourced the firmware and the protocol the frame speaks.
- July 2026: we published a reference server, so a frame can point at your own machine.
- August 2026: we published our flight network's software on GitHub.
Today we're making it a promise.
As of September 3rd, 2026, we, the founders of FlightPortrait (YODE Pte Ltd), pledge that if we ever close the company, we will release the source code of the app and server, and license the artwork to every owner, so their frame keeps drawing.
Your frame should outlive any company, including ours.
This pledge is borrowed, gratefully. TRMNL made the first one for their e-paper devices in February 2025. They showed that a small hardware company can promise its customers a future that doesn't depend on it.
We share their belief that the things you buy should stay yours, and we're glad to follow their lead.
